Somebody stop me!

My hubby and I went out over the weekend to shop for his birthday gift. I thought our main goal was to get him some new shoes. And we did get him some new sneakers. But somehow we ended up at the local Best Buy as well.

It is easy to understand that something electronic would make a more fun gift than shoes. So I didn't even bother trying to stop him. But maybe I should have. Because we came home with a new video game system and the game Rock Band to go with it. And I am hooked. Seriously hooked. Who knew I had an inner rock star buried deep within me?! I have spent way too much time these past few days playing and singing. Am I any good? Who cares! I am having a blast. :)

Where did my week go?

I simply cannot believe that a week has already passed since my last post. And I have precious little to report on the quilting scene. I did get my challenge quilt wall hanging pieced and quilted. And the binding is all cut and ready to go. So it looks like I will make the deadline with time to spare. How very unlike me. =:-p I really wish that I could post some pictures for you, but that will have to wait until after the voting takes place.
The rest of my week has been taken up with family matters. Hubby's birthday was Thursday, which lead to a dinner at our daughter's new home one night and having hubby's parents over for dinner at our house another. Plus it was spring break for our son who goes away for college, so the activity level at home was at a peak.
This coming week will probably be light quilting wise as well. Dean and I joined the local fitness center, and I will be meeting with a personal trainer and learning how to use all the fancy equipment. Since hubby was a jock in high school, he already knows what to do. Anyways, it will be interesting to see how it goes.

Sunday Stitching Summary

This has not been a very productive week for me as far as quilting goes. I have a daughter getting married in June, and I have not yet found a dress to wear. So I spent a good deal of my week shopping- unsuccessfully I might add, for a mother-of-the-bride dress. As a plus-sized woman, there is not much to choose from as far as I have been able to find. Add to the dilema the fact that my daughter has chosen to put her bridesmaids in chocolate brown tea length dresses for a June wedding, and I just have no idea what I should even be looking for. What I do know is that I don't like anything I have found so far. Sigh.

I balanced the frustration of my shopping shortfalls with a bit of sewing. I managed to complete the top of my January/February strip club quilt.
I am not sure if I love the result, but I am happy that I did not have to purchase any fabric to complete the top. I may even have something suitable for the backing in my stash. That makes me happy.

I have all my blocks pieced and on the design wall. Yippee! I am off to piece the top togehter.Back in a bit! :)

Quiltathon weekend

This weekend, I am participating in a quiltathon. I had hopes of getting so much accomplished. It has been ages since I have done any quilting. And the quiltathon was just the push I needed. Unfortunately for me, this also coincides with temporary empty nest syndrome at home. And my husband is suddenly available and anxious to spend some quality time with me. I'm not complaining, I love my husband and it is great to spend time with him. It just leaves me with much less progress to report in on my quilting.

Friday night was strip club at The Wooden Spool. I chose to continue working on my January strip quilt and skip February's pattern. For those of you who read last month's post, I am quite embarrassed to admit that I could probably bring it again this month and have plenty to do. At this point, I have about half of my block units assembled.

Sigh. This is even after I returned to The Wooden Spool yesterday for open sewing time. Any delusions of my being a speedy sewer have now disappeared. Maybe I can partly blame the terrible cold I have...but probably not.

I did spend a bit of my open sewing time working on my buck-a-block quilt. I made the last block and finished sewing the rows together. So now I just need to add some outer borders and it will be a completed flimsy.

And Flo acted up and demanded my attention when she started skipping stitches. Nothing like taking apart a featherweight in the middle of a quilt shop during open sewing to get some people panicking. But alas, I did find a thread stuck under the hook and was able to remove it and fix the issue.

So my progress so far includes the completion of half my strip quilt blocks and the buck-block top is assembled and ready for borders.

I have also been working some on a challenge quilt I am doing with Quilts Your Way forums. The only thing I can show you right now is the challenge fabric we are all using.

This is a bit out of my normal comfort zone in terms of colors and style. And I have designed a quilt that will require me to use some new techniques as well. At this point I have the design sketched out, the fabrics chosen and prepped, and some of the cutting done. But since I can't show pics, I have decided to spend the remainder of my stitching time today working on my strip quilt blocks. Stay tuned for more . I'm headed back to my machine now.
