I am still alive...

...I just haven't been doing much quilting lately. Until the past few weeks, when I felt the need to get busy on a quilt for my next grandchild, due the end of this month. My daughter and I worked together to pick out the color scheme and come up with a pattern that we both like. This is the end result. I named the quilt Springtime Graces. I can't wait for that baby to grace us with her presence. :)

Design wall? August 2

These blocks have been on my wall since June 1st. Some of the blocks have fallen to the floor, probably in protest to my neglect.

I haven't had time to do any sewing this summer, with one exception. I did manage to finish this quilt in time to give as a wedding gift.

January UFO -DONE!

So, it took a few extra days. My January UFO focus is finished and that is what matters the most. I am thrilled. And, all of the things that gave me such trouble appear to have decided to behave in the finished quilt. How awesome is that!?
I have the first of three borders on my February UFO. I think today I will try to piece the second border together and finish the top. I'm feeling another finish for this month. How are you coming with your UFOs?

Another finish in time for Christmas giving

Here it is another Monday and I still have nothing new on my design wall. We have kids home from college and have been busy with Christmas celebrations. That has left no free time for me to play. But, I do have a finish to share. This one had to get done, as it is a Christmas gift.

If you want some more inspiration, head on over to Judy's blog and check out some other quilter's design walls.

Not exactly my design wall...

...but here are the things I've been working on. First up is a finish! This is my version of Judy L.'s Bears in the Farmhouse quilt. I am very happy to be done with this one. I am giving this one as a gift for Christmas.

I still have one more quilt to finish before Christmas. I know I'm cutting things close, but these gifts were actually afterthoughts. I'm not organized enough to think far enough ahead to have already finished gift quilts. It's just not how I roll. And I usually work well under pressure, so I am confident this will be done in time as well. It's all pin-basted and ready to quilt. I even have a quilting plan decided. :)
And finally, I am working on this wall hanging. It is a pattern from Darlene Zimmerman's Clothesline Club. I was having a hard time finishing it as the pattern suggested. (I imagine a few of my loyal readers are detecting a pattern here. It seems I just cannot make a quilt exactly like a pattern shows.) She scalloped the outside edge on her quilt and did not have prairie points. I left my outer edge straight and added the prairie points instead.

I don't anticipate having anything new on my design wall for the rest of this month, seeing as Christmas is almost upon us. But, you never know.

It's Done

Finally finished with this one. I hope Matt is happy with it. I am thrilled to be able to move on to other projects. I have a few more tops I'd like to get quilted soon. For now, I'm off to sew. :)

I got two baby quilts finished :D

Oh, yeah! You read that right. I have two quilts finished already this month. :) I wasn't working quite fast enough to finish them in August. But, both babies these are intended for have already been born, so I really needed to make finishing them a priority. It feels good to start the month on a positive note.

Greetings, and thanks for joining me!

Hello, and welcome! I am new to Blogger, but thought I might give this a try. My name is Jane, and I live in Michigan. I am a wife and mother, and although my family may get mentioned on occasion, they will not be the focus of this blog. This space is for my self expression, and for sharing with all of you my love of all things quilting.

I have been quilting for close to 15 years now. I have learned to quilt mostly from watching the how to quilt shows on PBS and from reading lots and lots of books on quilting. I do all of my work on my sewing machine if at all possible. I really have no patience for hand work. I have managed to learn a lot about the quilting process through trial and error. Here is a picture of my first quilt. It is a sampler quilt. I got the block patterns from a book called "Lapquilting with Georgia Bonesteel". I made this quilt for my daughter. She no longer keeps it on her bed, as it is stained and some of the fabrics have worn through. I did not know any better about choosing fabrics back then. I am more particular now. Someday she will get a new quilt that will fit better with her tastes now that she is an adult.
This is my latest quilt. It was made for my son. He chose the pattern and had input on the color use. As you can see, my skills have progressed some since that first quilt. This quilt replaced one I had made him when he was younger. He loved that other quilt to death. It is in shreds because I used fabrics that were inexpensive and not top quality. So, now he has a new quilt that he took with him to college. Hopefully he will be more careful of this one. ;)
